Have you ever had a blueberry pie made with fresh blueberries? With a few simple ingredients and fresh blueberries, you can have a delicious blueberry pie in no time at all.
You have probably had a piece of delicious blueberry pie that grandma made, sticky, gooey, and delicious. Try this fresh blueberry alternative. You will love it too.
Fresh Blueberries are in season in North America during July and August. In grocery stores these days, you can almost find fresh blueberries year-round. You can buy frozen blueberries; although they are not like fresh ones, they are still delicious. I’m sure everyone will love this delicious pie. You can make it with an already-baked, easy, store-bought pie crust. Or you can also make a gluten-free pie crust from scratch. See below.
Blueberries are good for you! High in nutrients and low in calories. Blueberries are one of the fruits containing the most antioxidants. They are said to help lower cholesterol and high blood pressure. The biggest reason to eat them is that they are so delicious!
Did you know there are new studies that show if you eat just a few blueberries before a meal containing carbohydrate-rich foods, the blueberries (raspberries and strawberries, too) may help lessen the effects on raising your blood sugar levels?
If you eat even a small portion of blueberries every day, it can be beneficial. Nutrients in blueberries can improve cholesterol, reduce high blood pressure and be good for your heart.
Why not pick your own blueberries?
Blueberries are easy to pick. During the Blueberry Season, we have enjoyed picking blueberries over the years at Wilmot Orchards in Newcastle, Ontario. They have several varieties, all with their own distinct flavors. There is nothing like the taste of freshly picked blueberries!
Wilmot Orchards also operate a café on the farm called Appleberries Café. Enjoying some fresh baking or taking home already-picked berries is a treat.
You can pick blueberries and freeze them for use all winter. If you are picking your own, don’t wash them before freezing, and they won’t stick together. You can then eat them like little frozen Popsicles!
I developed this recipe for Fresh Blueberry Pie in my home kitchen one summer using freshly picked blueberries from Wilmot Orchards. Now we can’t let summer go by without at least one Fresh Blueberry Pie. Whether for family or visitors, you will delight everyone with this pie.
